How To Make Tteokbokki
Ingredients
- 8 oz tteok (soft rice cakes)
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup gochujang (red pepper paste)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice wine
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup diced vegetables (such as carrots, bell peppers, or mushrooms)
- 1/2 cup protein (such as cooked chicken, beef, or tofu)
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced, for serving
- Sesame seeds, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Add the tteok and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they are soft and swollen.
- In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the gochujang, sugar, soy sauce, rice wine, and sesame oil.
- Add the sauce to the pot with the tteok. Stir well to coat the tteok with the sauce.
- Add the garlic, onion, vegetables, and protein to the pot. Stir well to combine.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the tteokbokki for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the flavors have melded together and the vegetables are tender.
